(Consumer Prices and Cost of Living Included)

We are pleased to inform you that salary survey report for mid-year 2006 is now available at MSR. In March 2006, the government of Myanmar announced the 4 to 12 times increase in the salaries of government employees. Immediately after that significant salary increase, the government introduced some control measures against the increases in commodity prices. However, the commodity prices have gradually increased in subsequent period up to now.

In this situation, the business and INGO communities in Myanmar have to consider the alternatives for their employees in order to cope with the rising commodity prices in Myanmar.

For the data on the prices of commodities including food basket, MSR conducted interviews with wholesalers and retailers.
